AI agents for auditors: Cortea lands €12M seed round

Berlin-based startup Cortea has secured €12 million in seed funding to accelerate the rollout of its AI-powered Audit Quality Agents. The round was led by Dawn Capital, with Cherry Ventures, Mosaic Ventures, and several angel investors on board, including Larry Bradley, former Global Head of Audit at KPMG, according to the company's press release.
The timing is no coincidence. Audit firms worldwide are under growing pressure: regulatory requirements are getting stricter, reporting is becoming more complex, and the demand for skilled auditors is hard to meet. Cortea aims to help firms navigate this environment by giving auditors smarter tools, not by replacing them.
The company's Audit Quality Agents review audit reports, financial statements, and supporting documentation before sign-off. They cross-check figures, flag discrepancies, and surface missing information, all within minutes rather than hours. During the most recent audit season, the technology helped review more than 4,000 audit reports and saved auditors several days of manual review work per engagement.
Crucially, the agents are built to fit into existing workflows. Auditors keep full control; the AI surfaces findings for human review. As Bradley notes in the press release, Cortea integrates AI in a way that is controlled, traceable, and practical.
The fresh capital will help Cortea scale its technology to audit firms across Europe and beyond. For a profession built on trust, that combination of efficiency and oversight may prove to be exactly what the market needs.
