Tokyo-based lighting company Ushio Inc. has completed the acquisition of the Entertainment and Industry (ENI) division of AMS Osram, effective March 2, 2026. The newly formed entity, now operating as Ushio INE GmbH (or Ushio Industry & Entertainment), is headquartered in Berlin-Spandau, making the German capital the global base for this business.
The deal brings around 500 former Osram employees into the Ushio fold. The Berlin site specializes in high-performance specialty lamps for cinema projection, stage lighting, and industrial applications, a niche market that Ushio describes as highly profitable. AMS Osram's automotive division was not part of the deal and remains with the parent company.
According to a press release from Ushio, the acquisition strengthens the company's global position in specialty lighting. Marko Haas, head of Ushio Industry & Entertainment, said the priority during the transition was continuity, with customers continuing to receive the same product quality and supply reliability they were used to.
Uwe Rebafka, operations manager at the Berlin site, confirmed that the core facility will stay intact. The acquisition combines Osram ENI's deep market expertise and customer relationships with Ushio's global manufacturing strength and innovation resources.
Founded in 1964 and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Ushio produces lamps, lasers, LEDs, and optical systems across the UV, visible, and infrared spectrum. In recent years, the company has also expanded into life sciences and medical applications. With Berlin now as a strategic headquarters, the city cements its role as a hub for precision photonics and advanced lighting technology.
