Berlin energy tech scale-up metiundo has closed a €40 million funding round from Octopus Energy Generation, one of Europe's largest investors in renewable energy and green infrastructure. According to the company's press release, the capital will accelerate the deployment of intelligent metering systems and expand metiundo's software platform for data-driven solutions in the energy and water sectors.

Founded in 2021 by Dennis Nasrun and Felix Mücke, metiundo offers "Smart Metering as a Service" and handles nearly the entire value chain in-house. The company covers everything from planning and installation to operation, market communication, and cross-sector data processing for energy and water consumption. With offices in Berlin and Heidelberg and a team of 70 employees, metiundo has already installed over 21,000 meters as an independent competitive metering point operator.

What sets metiundo apart is its integrated approach. Instead of treating electricity, gas, and water separately, the platform creates a comprehensive picture of a building's consumption and generation. This holistic view is essential for effectively coordinating energy use and production, particularly as Germany pushes toward its climate goals.

"We've consistently invested in our own software from day one, achieving quality and flexibility that sets us apart," says co-founder and CEO Dennis Nasrun. The new funding will drive more installations, higher quality, and faster platform development.

Alex Brierley, co-head of Octopus Energy Generation's fund management business, notes that Germany's building and heating sector accounts for roughly 30% of energy-related emissions. By scaling solutions like metiundo's, households and businesses can reduce costs and carbon footprints through optimized use of technologies like solar panels and battery storage.

The investment will fund software development and expand the installation team, with plans to hire additional specialists in software engineering, installation, and operations.
