Berlin's Afori Lands €4M for AI-Powered Broker Assistant

Berlin-based Afori has officially launched with €4 million in pre-seed funding to tackle a problem that plagues insurance brokers across Germany: drowning in paperwork while clients wait. The AI-powered platform promises to give brokers back what they need most – time to actually advise people.
According to EU Startups, the funding round was led by General Catalyst, with backing from Yellow, Booom, and an impressive roster of insurance veterans and AI pioneers, including Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman and Celonis co-founder Alex Rinke.
Here's the challenge Afori addresses: insurance brokers spend over 60% of their workday on administrative tasks – sorting emails, filing documents, tracking cases, and juggling between multiple systems. That leaves precious little time for what actually grows their business: building client relationships and providing expert advice.
Afori's solution is refreshingly straightforward. Instead of forcing brokers to learn yet another complex system, the platform works as an intelligent sidebar directly within Outlook. It automatically reads incoming emails and documents, recognises what type of case each one represents, creates structured tasks, and deploys specialised AI agents to handle routine processes right in the broker's inbox. Early users report saving an average of one hour per day.
The founding team brings serious credibility. CEO Fabian Wesemann co-founded InsurTech unicorn wefox, while CTO Sergi Banos was wefox's first employee. Both spent over a decade in insurance, understanding exactly where the pain points lie.
"Unlike generic productivity tools, Afori's AI is trained on real broker use cases and insurance-specific terminology," Banos explains. The platform doesn't just speed up tasks – it understands the language and workflows unique to insurance professionals.
